Helios hated to be groomed.
But as the lap dog of the president of the entire country? He had to undertake it whether he wanted to or not. It had been a couple of days now, and between training and his own play he’d come to be a bit dirty. So today he got a full feel of it again.
He was doused in water, had his hair brushed, and was dressed in another of those onesies his master so enjoyed them in. He’d spent nearly twenty minutes trying to reach it again, but eventually given up around the time he was given lunch.
This really sucked. Waiting around for when he had to, inevitably, go to Kratos’ lap again for whatever reason. Just a little, cute trophy for the ape to play with. At least he was treated well, he guessed.
His eyes loomed toward the door as he played with a puzzle box he’d been given. He hadn’t met anyone directly outside of the king or Gladiator yet. And he somehow dreaded the first time he met another pet, or one of his friends walked through the door to gawk at him.
“Your name is Thackery,” he murmured to himself lowly to remind himself. “You are not a dog. You are not a puppy. You are human.”
He’d always keep that semblance of free will inside him. Even if they broke his spirit he told himself that.

It was another day for Autumn and she could think of nothing but Tribune village. Of course, 'they' took her out only to be 'groomed' and but were always pushing her back into the cage. She had her own routine. Sleep, eat, and go to the bathroom. She had found herself sleeping more- primarily out of boredom.
Then another human came down and she rapped on the cage's door, maybe he will let her out, since he was there now. "Hey..you...they got you too? And you're a child no less." What could she do? What could he do? She wanted someone to talk to badly. He was a human.
"My name's Autumn. What's your name? Oh please talk to me? They keep me locked up day and night...only letting me out for bathroom breaks and food. They want me to give in...and I won't." She said. "I just want to go home to my village."

Helios fidgeted a little when he noticed her in a cage.
He wasn’t sure he was supposed to open them, especially when he was the lap dog here. And that usually meant he had to set an “example”, so he elected to not piss off the giant ape who he made a seat out of the lap of daily.
The teen stood up and walked over though. “I’m sorry I can’t let you out. You see he took me as a lap dog. It means I’m going to be treated well. But not if I piss him off,” he then motioned to his clothes. “I already have to dress as a toddler and be out an public I don’t want much worse.”
He then added. “... He named me Helios.”

Autumn felt it wasn't fair to her to be locked up and it wasn't fair for him to be treated like a 'toddler'. She was thinking of something to gain his trust. She was thinking.
"I've not met him since I arrived, so I'm not sure who this is." She didn't even know any of their names. Not even the one that brought her in. She wasn't calling them any name. Why should she? She despised this cage and the more she spent time in it, the more she longed to leave it and go home.
"Why rename us when we already have names?" She said. "Names are unique." She added. "My Mom and Dad named me Autumn for my hair color."
Her hands were planted on the glass door. "I really think they like to keep all humans isolated. Is it day? Is it night? I sleep all the time."

He shrugged a little.
This was the way things were now he guessed. It was just a simple fact of life. “If I had come a few weeks ago I’d be in a nursery. He’s apparently decided kids can be pets too now,” he explained. “You don’t know where you are? We’re in the frickin’ palace. Or I’d have tried to find a way out by now.”
He shifted his collars tag a bit. Showing off the tag with his new name on it. Not out of pride but out of fear. “I’m bound to the name now. I’ve been forbidden from saying my real one,” he mentioned. “The President treats me well but I have to follow his instruction.”
After a long moment he added. “It’s morning. Which means I probably only have a little time before I’m expected on the throne,” he explained as he seated himself down. “I’m expected there each day. I guess to them a lap dog means I sit there and look cute for his visitors. That’s what I gather.”

Autumn didn't say she didn't know where she was. She just didn't know what whether it was day or night. Well, if it's morning, she only had a few moments to talk to him before he was hauled away. "I ventured to the knight before I was caught." She finally admitted. "There are so many guards around that it's impossible to even get away." She spoke finally as she sat down.
She saw his tags. Lucky she didn't have one yet. So, he was forbidden on to ever talk about his real name and probably shouldn't even be talking to her. "I, guess it's forbidden to talk to other humans?" She didn't care. "Oh what the heck. Forbidden to talk to other humans. Bah humbug. They're nothing but stooges." She remarked. "Well, some of them are." She hoped that didn't get her into trouble.

Yeah, he had tried too.
Helios pointed down at the zipper for his onesie as if to make a small but fair point. “That’s my problem too. Even if I got my collar off - this gives it away. And he made sure he’s the one who dresses me. They’re smart,” he explained. “Even if I walked out of here everyone would know I’m someone’s pet.”
He shook his head. “I can talk to other humans. I’ve made a few friends here,” he explained. “They’re not all that bad... I hate to say it but it’s a bit warmer and safer too. Try the lap sometime if they let you,” he explained. “It’s oddly soothing.”
He wanted to gag that he said that - had he just said that?

"You'll sweat to death in that and then your skin can't breathe." That bit was true. He'd sweat during the summer time when it was in 90-100 degree weather.
"You mean there are other humans here?" Autumn didn't know that because she was isolated for more than a few days. She hadn't seen the servant and only the caretaker. She was under the impression that she was the only one here...well, down in the basement.
"Oh no thanks." She said, about the lap. "I don't like being in someone's lap nor do I like these stupid silly collars they put on us." Only a child would think that.
"But can you go outside by yourself and do whatever you want without being watched?" She just asked. "Can you go to the fields to pick blueberries or go to a strawberry patch?" It was becoming apparent...that Autumn was homesick. "Can you go fishing with your friends and bring it back home to eat that day with your family?" Bream and bass.

She had a point there.
Though he had to guess Kratos had some sort of answer to that. Maybe short sleeved ones? They had to make them. “I’m sure he has an answer for that too. He seems to answer to everything,” he explained. “Not that I’m particularly happy about it.”
He shrugged at the other humans. “Servants and other people’s pets that come and go,” he then admitted. “I had a play date with one of them. Which was actually enjoyable. If only for the exercise.”
When asked if he was ever alone... He shook his head. “No, sadly I don’t get to be alone a lot,” he explained. “When I’m out I’m with Kratos and when I’m here I’m monitored.” He then added. “Plus the first thing Gladiator did was make sure I was microchipped. So they can’t lose me.”

Autumn wasn't surprised...because it seemed this one ape made more decisions regarding their attire. "Whoever makes them, has to make short sleeved ones and you need pants too." She was very observant.
She also wasn't being watched because she was in a cage. She thought she could bang her head and no one would notice that she was going a little stir-crazy from her long imprisonment. "Oh. I have a routine now. It's go to the bathroom three times a day, eat three times a day, and sleep. More sleep and sleep some more." She responded. "I don't get to go out for any thing like that. I always get taken to this cage."
It seemed they just kept her out of sight and out of mind of others. "Oh that sucks. Being microchipped." She shook her head. "See. You can't even go do things a human does without being monitored."

He frowned a bit at the comment about pants. He had his doubts on getting those too. “I wish I could say that was an option. The pants I mean, but they have me covered there too. There are flaps,” he grunted a little. “They think of everything.”
When she mentioned the cage he honestly had to be frank with her. “Maybe if you stop fighting it. Like I said, it isn’t so bad. There are actually some parts I like,” he explained. “Back in the wild we had to work and fight. Here they take care of everything. Anything I want actually. I could ask for food right now of whatever I wanted and they’d bring it to me.”
He paused. “It’s not the way I wanted to live. But I know eventually they’ll break me so I’m just not fighting it anymore.” After she mentioned the microchip he nodded his head. “I could do without that part though. It’s a big defendant from running - because I really can’t. It’s part of the reason I gave in in the first place.”

Autumn shook her head. "I'm 18 and independent. I don't want- that." There. She was an independent human. Relying on her own feelings, thoughts, needs, taking care of herself. She didn't want to rely on others for her needs. "I don't want to rely on others for everything. You don't understand...I wasn't really a fighter. The men in the village I lived in were all trained to be fighters and hunters. It's not rare for a woman to become thoroughly independent."
Then she realized that this was a child. He may not understand the fact of being an adult yet. He was too young to fully understand independence.

He really didn’t either.
He’d always been taken care of and this was just an albeit humiliating way of being cared for in his opinion. “I’ve just always been taken care of I guess. And sure it’s humiliating sometimes. But...” he paused. “My parents are dead and I’ve got no one else. Nowhere to go. I guess I’d just rather stick around here.” He shrugged.

"My parents are still alive I think or I hope they are. But they taught me lessons and I'm far from spoiled rotten." She said. "I can't stand to have others looking after me. I don't like it when they bathe me because - they're always pulling my hair, and scrubbing my skin too hard." She shook her head no. "I don't like it when they pull my hair when they brush. It hurts my scalp and then my head hurts for the rest of the day. Then my skin, already sensitive to everything from sun to these strange smelling soaps makes me itch."
Autumn seemed like she was pouring her heart out to a young boy. But he was on the ape's side it seems and would do everything to convince her otherwise. "I don't even know half the stuff they give me to eat."

Honestly he was far from on the ape’s side.
Rather he’d just resigned to himself that why fight it anymore? It wasn’t like he’d had a choice and not like he would have a choice ever. Hell he had his own complaints, like how he couldn’t really do anything for himself, ever. “I know what you mean. I’m like 13 and I can’t even dress or bathe myself,” he then added. “If Kratos isn’t doing it then the maids or guards are. They make me look all cute and it’s ugh,” he then added. “I tried fighting it but what’s the use? At the end of the day I’m 4’6”. Pretty small for my age and it’s not like I can fight them for real.”
He then added. “The food here is good though. I’ll give them that.”
