Seeing that Melanie was in check, and Venus in a locked grip, he didn't bother to have his patrols on watch. He honestly was tired of his tribunal room at becoming a circus. It honestly annoyed him, as it was a formal place.
He listened to each testimony. First, he questioned Rowan. "And, what does this Esmeralda have anything to do with this?" He asked curiously, figuring she might have something.
His focus returned to the victim. "You heard it, well was it light or heavy?" He asked, trying to reveal the tiny evidence.
It was a real gruesome thought, and Maxwell defended strongly. Perhaps this human was sadistic or simply defending the truth? Kratos turned, looking up at the disgusted human. "Only one way to find out, carefully inhale. But it could possibly be airborne poison." He mumbled. He turned to Galen and Rowan. "Ever scented his brushes?" He questioned. "This question is far out there, but the actions of this human, might oddly be a connection." He sighed.
A quiet thought surfaces in his mind, remaining quiet. He leaned over to Maximus. "On second thought, that white rat needs to be punished. She mudered for sakes, and harmed three of our hunters. Yes, I'm aware of her title, but murdering your own handler?" His head shook. "She can't get off that easy, perhaps in prison for a bit, then? We can discuss it later."

Rowan
"Esmeralda is familiar with Melanie and Carol."
Melanie
She was very quiet, clenching her eyes closed. But being in check was far from the 'truth'. "Oh I did not just hear that! Fa la la la la." She was singing in one of her melodious singing voices. "Fa la la la do ray me...fa sol de do... Don't tread lightly...."
Maximus
He was clearly wondering if that were actually true. "Nah. I don't believe that blood makes a good medium." He finally said. "It is apparent that the noises you heard were someone retching in the background."

Venus listened to Maximus, even felt the sturdy leash. She remained quiet as Kratos ordered his men to once again bring over to her and Melanie. Then looked up at Maxwell. Poor dude, Venus believed he was innocent. Her collar was jerked to Maximus and his chilling voice brought out. For a moment she glowered, then turn her glare away. "Cold cage it is." She added bluntly.

Zaius nodded to Kratos as he was nice enough to reply to Melanie. He would of liked to do, but perhaps it was better at that moment. He was impressed until she sang. He grimaces yanking leash closer to himself. "Don't you dare begin a serenade in this room." He glared harshly, not shifting his disgusted face. He intently listened and was sickened. He didn't think it was true, but anything is possible. "Maxwell, why did you turn rogue? After being ape-raised?"

Maxwell heard what they said about being a sadist and he was sickened. His world just couldn't get any more darker, now could it? Yes, it can and will. He was beginning to think he should have just stayed in bed- made the excuse of being ill with a virus or fake it. Why didn't he just stay out of the jungle? His thoughts were tumultuous. He didn't even think of using gorilla blood as a medium. It was just so disgusting and cruel! That never crossed his mind and he didn't answer Zaius because his thoughts were only on his day just getting worse.

Galen was walking up to the paint brushes and picking up one of the clean ones. He carefully smelled the clean ones. "We haven't sniffed them yet. We wanted to bring them in first. But the ones that are clean smell of cleaning soap. The red one smells highly of acrylics. Blood would have a different smell to it. Maxwell kept his brushes in perfect clean shape."
Galen also heard Zaius ask a question, but the boy hadn't answered. He was probably very preoccupied with his own thoughts. Thoughts of doom probably. Then he felt sorry for the boy and all that they put him through. Being demoted to a dog was shocking to him. He had never thought he'd be demoted into something so low. The human would act very differently. There wasn't any telling what the boy was going through. He was possibly not an attempted murderer. "The evidence doesn't point to the boy, does it?"

The victim spoke, "It wasn't light. It was heavy like an animal. and before I was knocked out, it stunk."

Melanie was yanked towards Zaius as she was singing a light tune to pretend she didn't hear that disturbing awful barrage. She got silent once again. It seemed that he didn't like her singing at all. Now she knew what her sister felt when she was told off for singing songs. She hoped Carol was fairing better than she was. Her voice came out small, as Carol often spoke when rebuked. "I won't sing any more." She didn't add what she had on her mind which was, 'I'll sing in private from now on. Carol did it, so can I.'
Melanie seemed to feel sorry for Maxwell because all he did was try to help Venus, herself, and their own kind.
Melanie gave a long sigh. It was so not fair being on the end of a leash that dug into her nape when tugged or yanked. Melanie gave a tug to the too tight collar.

"Ah such a pity you don't want a comfortable bed- and a little more comfort than a cold cage. But since that is your choice, you'll get the cold cage tonight and every night. Unfortunately, I'm always busy in my duties so you'll be staying in the cold cage most of the time...under the careful watch of several ape guards, and maybe they'll let you out once in a while for good behavior. Central City Prison it is. I believe that would be a suitable punishment for a murderous human. Tsk tsk."
Then he looked over to Maxwell who hadn't answered the question Zaius projected. "Answer his question."

Maxwell glanced over at Maximus because he was a foolish young man and rolled his shoulders forward in an obvious shrug of 'I don't know.'
"It seemed like the right thing to do. Humans in cages mean punishments and they didn't do anything wrong so I freed them." It may have been a stupid thing to bring up, but that's what he meant. "The village I used to come from only used cages to punish humans for misbehavior and we didn't always sleep in cages. They'd let us out eventually for meals and bathroom breaks. The hunters were punishing all these humans so I thought they did the same thing." Maxwell refused to offer anymore answers about his paint brushes, canvases, and whatever else they had to use against him.
They'd even use that statement against him.

His head shook side to side, not vexed, but annoyed from him not answering. He sighed tapping his finger on the file. "Answer my questions, you ignore them you'll just get more into deep problems. If you wish to become innocent, then answer. He listened to Melanie. "Sing? Sing? You may sing all your heart's content after." He stated, then resumed looking at Maxwell. "It doesn't the matter the reason, you still committed it."

Venus wasn't even phased but Maximus's harsh statements, and answers. She glimpses over her shoulder as she used one hand to try and figure out the clip the the collar. "Well when you come custom to the cold cages, the days of loneliness and being teased. You would accept your casual happenings. She listened to Maxwell and Zaius. "That's not fair! He was only helping by instinct. Was he ever taught your poor laws?"

Maxwell looked a little embarrassed as he hadn't heard the question. And it wasn't until Maximus told him to answer his questions. "I was thinking of my new life as a dog instead of an ape-raised human. I never was in a cage. Even as a child. No one would feel the need to teach laws if they thought their humans would stay within the village or even the outskirts."
Maxwell still thought he was doomed.

Melanie continued to tug on the collar which was becoming a big hindrance to her. She wanted it off her nape and she didn't particularly know Zaius. But he seemed a lot nicer than most. Maybe he would loosen this inconvenience for her. She tugged on her leash, lightly.

Maximus wasn't oblivious to the way they were treated. But she seemed not to care. "You'd rather sleep in a cold cage than a warm place? You don't have a choice, but I offered you one." He didn't show any of usual harshness. But then again, he didn't want to frighten Melanie or Maxwell further. He glanced over to Maxwell. Quiet. Melanie- not used to a collar and it was obvious that she was very uncomfortable and Venus looking for a way to get her collar off.
"I would advise you not to tug or - attempt to remove your collars. Both of you."

Maxwell tugged on his collar, not really enjoying it! No one in his village wore a collar or a leash! It was degrading! Embarrassing! Then he heard the victim speak..."SEE! I'm completely innocent! I never hurt a gorilla! It was SOMETHING else! Can I go home now!?" He exclaimed.

Kratos shook his head as this tribunal wasn't going as great as he hoped. He secretly wanted Maxwell to be trialed so they didn't need to hunt down the suspect, and condemn him more for his recent law-breaking.
"Ah,of course it was heavy, but the rock was blunt." He quietly muttered, then resumed speaking, "did it stink like a human?"
Then Melanie began her singing. Kratos cringed. These humans seriously didn't get a hint. Next time he will trial one at a time. "Rowan, how is Esmeralda going to help? Melanie isn't being trialed." He stated.
His fists curled as Venus ranged out, this time. He sighed, swaying a paw towards him. "Please keep her quiet unless she's asked." And added, "prison time it is. Perhaps we can toss Maxwell for his other crimes." He returned his focus on Maxwell. His palm covered his lips, pulling him closer. "You're not going home, you have other crimes." He whispered viciously.
"Galen, thanks for inhaling those. That confirms the wicked theory of him painting with blood."
